The scope of this effort is to provide on-site support of NIWC Pacific Code 75280 Machine Shop. The contractor shall provide tooling, jig and fixture, prototype, and production parts fabrication services from Government generated technical drawings or sketches. The Code 75280 Machine Shop provides rapid turn-around support by fabricating sheet metal and machined parts for equipment, systems, or antennas in support of the fleet.
Contract Duration: July 2022 – July 2027
2-Week Work Schedule: Week 1 – 44 hours/week (9 hours/day Monday-Thursday, 8 hours Friday) , Week 2 – 36 hours/week (9 hours/day Monday-Thursday, Friday is a non-work day)
- Provide tooling, jig and fixture, prototype, and production parts fabrication services from Government generated technical drawings or sketches. Fabricate custom parts in accordance with engineering drawings or sketches, the machine shop Job Order, and Machinery Handbook.
- Design, improve, and modify new or existing tools, jigs, and fixtures to facilitate parts fabrication.
- Receive Job Order requests from customers to fabricate or manufacture various parts and assemblies in accordance with program specifications. Daily Job Orders will be received from the machine shop job coordinator.
- Fabricate or manufacture parts or assemblies from raw stock using applicable machine tools and provide the finished part back to the customer.
- Ability to aid in the process of rapidly responding to urgent fleet mechanical requirements that aligns with the Center's mission of speed to capability.
- Follow the Code 75280 Machine Shop Standard Operating Procedure, NIWCPAC Instruction 4110.1B, NAVFAC P-307, and all applicable NIWC PAC Safety Office policies and guidelines.
Qualifications Required for the Position
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Able to setup, run, and troubleshoot equipment in the shop.
- Improve or modify existing processes to accomplish complex tasks. Possess the skills and training to work on assigned tasks independently.
- Possess solid understanding of a variety of machining and mechanical jobs and are able to recognize safety concerns.
- 4+ years of experience working with precision, ruggedized items intended for shipboard installation designed in accordance with Mil-HDBK-454 and Mil-HDBK-2036. These items may include fabrication or modification of EIA/ECA-310 enclosures, racks, chassis, and panels.
- 4+ years’ experience using hand tools such as Tool and Cutter grinders, Hardness testers, Hydraulic presses, drilling machines, band saws, pantographs, brakes, shears, planers, shapers, and cranes.
- Ability to fabricate tools, jigs, and fixtures in accordance with engineering drawings per ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5 or sketches.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
- NIMS or NTMA Level I/II/III certified or equivalent (desired, not required)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Must be a US Citizen
- Ability to clear required background checks needed to obtain base and machine shop access.
